Drama Name:  夜色暗涌时   [Love at Night ] - 30 EPISODES

Cast:  Zhang Yu Xi as Xu Qing You, Liu Xue Yi as Mo Ling Ze, Zhao Yuan Yuan as Fang Qi, Gu Zi Cheng as Xu Wei

Language: Chinese

Unlike other office romances, this drama is more of an office+accident+damsel in distress kind of romance. When the female lead is cheated on by her decade-long boyfriend, she is devastated. Will, their trial to get back together, be successful? Watch to find out.

Characters:

Female protagonist: Youyou is a hard-working woman, who is in a senior position in her firm. She faces multiple problems at her workplace, but she is determined to solve them with all her might. This character is actually a great lesson for women. She faces hardships in her work as well as her personal life, but she manages to keep her professional and personal life separate, without either affecting the other. Zhang Yu Xi was an excellent choice as the female lead. Her expressions, acting, as well as emotions, were up to the mark. Another major bonus was that the character is fashionable. Be it work attire, party attire, or comfortable weekend clothes, she pulled them off like butter.

Male protagonist: Mo's portrayal by Xue Yi was excellent. Just like in other dramas, he is nicknamed 'Cold-face Mo' by his colleagues. He is a cold boss with a stone-hard exterior and a soft heart. His calm and steady demeanor, as well as his physique, reveal the genuine core of the character. Xue Yi played this role well. Although I would like to point out that he could have done a better job at showing intimacy with the female protagonist.

I should be mentioning the decade-long toxic boyfriend of the female lead, who is a lawyer. But his atrocities are better watched than reading here. Li Zi Feng, who played the role of Fan Yun Xi, did a great job though. An antagonist is mostly hated by all, and believe me, you will hate this character too. So an 8/10 for Li Zi.

Verdict:

The drama as whole talks about various morals and aspects of life-friendship; relieving from a toxic relationship; not holding on to the past, etc., etc... It has a unique storyline and the perfect cast. As much as you would love the main roles, the second leads also portray the various difficulties they face in life; fighting for making their own decisions, and fighting against all odds to follow their passion. The screen time for the main couple could have been more. They had good chemistry between them but the intimacy could have been a bit more realistic.

The series has a soothing OST along with a great direction and screenplay. Overall I would rate it a 7.8/10.
